Mission: Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services

What’s in a Name?

In the Case of Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services – Our Heart.

Mercy, from the Latin misericordia, refers to “the heart responding to misery,” while the Latin roots of one of our most deeply ingrained sentiments, compassion, translates into “suffering with.” In the most basic sense, Mercy Care Services suffers with and shares the miseries of our clients who may be homeless, poor, mentally ill, uninsured, linguistically isolated or lonely. Our heart feels their pain and our hands extend the care that helps to diminish it.

The mission of Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services is to participate in the healing ministry of the Church and the Sisters of Mercy by improving the well being of persons who are poor and disenfranchised, through the promotion of health, the provision of health services, and through advocacy for healthy communities.
